So, basically, hits her ribs just above the elbow while traveling upwards, so it ricochets off the rib (under the skin near the elbow) and exits at the armpit, still traveling upwards. I'd suggest the bullet hits her more from the side - just below the bra strap - chips off a major bone fragment, and tears a big exit wound as the deformed bullet exits through the armpit. and then exiting out through the armpit? Did it travel subcutaneously along the skin?! :-) I just don't see there being enough energy to carry the bullet up that far and out of the body. Breaking a rib is a possibility at very close range, I guess, but all of that force is depleted from the bullet and transferred to the bone, to be able to break it. I have a problem with the caliber and trajectory of the bullet.Ī. Has anyone written scenes like this? What would you suggest? Self-medicating a sucking chest wound is probably a bit much to swallow. 22 as I figured they would be more likely to deflect off bone than a punchier calibre. She will have to deal with infection, and has lost a lot of blood, made worse by the low-oxygen environment.ĭoes this seem like a feasible situation? What would be a realistic approach for a scene like this? I don't know too much about guns, and ultimately they aren't relevant - just picked a. Her treatment is pouring iodine all over the wound, stuffing a (Clean) tampon over the entrance/exit wound, and taping it up with surgeon's tape. The character is aboard a submarine, and does have access to the little medberth, but has at best a layman's knowledge of medicine. Very messy exit wound, but no organ damage. Bullet does not puncture her lungs, but cracks/breaks a few ribs, and deflects off through the armpit/shoulder. 22 from a pistol, hitting her ribs at a 45 degree angle. She gets shot in the torso without access to medical care, and has to deal with it solo for weeks at least. Trying to decide if a situation my character is in is believable, or at least doesn't rip down the suspension of disbelief too bad.
